Chris W. Steffens was born in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. As a kid, Chris’s family traveled frequently, moving to states like Louisiana, Maryland and California. Chris’s family settled in the country several miles outside Belle Plaine, Kansas , a stones throw from the Ninnescah River. Chris spent many summers swimming and exploring the river, building tree forts and riding dirt bikes on the gravel roads.
When Chris was 14, he got his first job at Wichita USD 259 running ethernet lines in various schools for the newly emerging internet and connected classrooms. Chris was always employed, working at Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen and after graduating high school, Chris went to work at the Walmart photo lab – a job he would hold for nearly 10 years.
Chris received a scholarship to attend Cowley County Community College, and after two years earning credits Chris moved to Lawrence in 1998. In 2002 Chris graduated from The University of Kansas with a double major in History and Economics. Upon graduation, Chris attended Washburn University School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in May 2005. After graduating from Law School, Chris served on the Douglas County Criminal Defense Panel for three years before dedicating his practice to Bankruptcy Law.
Chris has filed over 1,000 cases since he devoted his practice exclusively to Bankruptcy Law a decade ago. He is passionate about helping others in need and finds Bankruptcy Law rewarding due to the immediate and long term impact it can have on someone’s life. Chris has a deep respect for the trust clients give him, and he strives to provide service above and beyond expectations.
The most important part of Chris’s life is his family. He enjoys going on walks and bike rides around the neighborhood with his young daughter. Chris considers his wife a life companion and best friend.
In Chris’s free time, he enjoys working on projects around the house and has become somewhat of an amateur electrician, carpenter and general handyman. He is also a skilled mechanic, gear head and enjoys working on cars. When he gets a chance – his hobbies include playing guitar and photography.
